"Blossom": Can’t sleep? Sew sheep!

This sweet little lady with a spirited Irish heart would love to be a pin cushion, bowl filler, hostess gift, or a sweet sachet surprise on a guest bed. Finishes at about 5.5".

used our Blossom & ZigZapps pattern (found on our 2020 Fusible Brochure- given complimentary with each order, or sold separately as Blossom & Petals). I positioned the flower-center higher to be the sheep’s head.

MATERIALS:
Sheep Body: 1 white terrycloth barmop or washcloth.  If you use fabric, cut a (2) 6" squares.
Sheep Head, Ears, Feet: Black Wool or Felt: 3" (square or circle) for the head.  3" for the ears & feet.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1) Insert sharp scissors on the dashed line of the circle (flower center) and cut it out to free it from the flower.  Fuse the interfacing circle to the wrong side of the wool.  Cut out the circle.
2) Fold the sheep body fabric right sides together.  Fuse the flower (sheep body) to one wrong side.  Sew on the solid line.  Trim on the dashed line, or slightly outside of it if you have a very thick fabric like I was using here.  Clip to the stitching at the inner angles.
Position the head where you would like it and cut  a small slit in only one side of the sheep body- the head will cover the slit, so make it smaller than the head.   Turn the sheep body right side out, using a pointer-creaser to gently push out the seams and sharpen them.  Stuff the body with stuffing - Remember my tip - if you don't have a bag of stuffing, you might have some suitable in an unused pillow form.  Mine even has a nice zipper on it, so I now think of it as a very nice bag for my stuffing!
Whipstitch the opening closed.
3) Cut little leaf-shaped pieces for the ears.  For the feet, cut a small piece about the size of the end of a Popsicle stick. Hand-stitch the head to the body covering the opening tucking the ears under the head to stitch both at the same time.   You could use fabric glue also.  Hand-stitch the feet.
4) Embroider the shamrock- or you could use an embroidery machine prior to stitching the flower. You could also use a purchased shamrock embroidery or button. Or you could embroider a little heart. I embroidered by hand 3 little hearts to make the shamrock.  I am not a great embroiderer!
5) Embroider the face.  Let her pass on an Irish Blessing.

The  Blossom & Petals pattern was designed to make this sweet little flower.  But the Irish in me could see a sheep in there, too!

Much love,
Mattie
