If you've ever made a Quiltsmart Double Wedding Ring quilt, you know the pattern says to use 3" strips specifically. So, when we were asked by a Quiltsmartie if jelly rolls could be used, we knew we had to show you how. You see, the Quiltsmart Double Wedding Ring quilt pattern was designed and printed long before pre-cuts were readily available, and before we ever referred to fabric as desserts. (We get mighty hungry talking about jelly rolls and layer cakes around here :)
Without much further ado, I will show you the 3 basic ways to use a Quiltsmart Double Wedding Ring Pieced Arc Template with a jelly roll.
The easiest and most obvious way to use the Quiltsmart double wedding ring template with a jelly roll, is to turn the jelly roll vertically and using your rotary cutter and mat, cut it this way. It goes faster if you layer 2 or 3 pieces of fabric at a time and work in batches.
Using a jelly roll horizontally also works. The template will hang off the bottom a bit, but it will work with the printed interfacing once it is pieced together. If using this method, you do have to be very mindful of you 1/4" seam allowances, as it's a tight fit once the arcs have been completed.
You can also create a gorgeous arc affect by piecing two jelly rolls together and placing the double wedding ring template on the fabric with the fabric going horizontally. You can feel free to play with the template placing to create various affects with the prints, and pattern designs.
You can also use this method with the fabric going vertically!
Feel free to play around with placement and have fun with creating a unique design! Have you ever made a Quiltsmart Double Wedding Ring quilt with a jelly roll, or other creative method? We'd love to see your work! Feel free to contact us and show us what you've done.
